Melanie Cain, Soprano, holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and a Masters of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A native of Carroll, Iowa, she received her BA in both Music and Art from Luther College in Decorah, IA. She has had the pleasure of studying under many prominent vocal teachers, coaches, and directors including Mimmi Fulmer, Christine Seitz, Dr. Jessica Paul, William Farlow, William Lutes, and currently Julia Faulkner. Ms. Cain had the honor of singing for the famous tenor Ben Heppner's masterclass.

Melanie has performed numerous roles in the Madison area receiving rave reviews. The Capital Times wrote, "Melanie Cain sang with a gorgeous range and a strong, thrilling voice that projected to the top row. Cain has a big career ahead of her." Her past roles include Alice Ford in Falstaff, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Miss Jessel in Britten's The Turn of the Screw, Second Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, The Mother and The Witch in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and Madame Lidoine in The Dialogues of the Carmelites. She has also studied the roles of Leonora in Beethoven's Fidelio, the title role from Gluck's Armide, and Salome in Herodiade by Massenet in UW's Opera Workshop. In 2005, Melanie understudied the renowned soprano Julia Faulkner in the title role of Vanessa. She was Assistant Director/Stage Manager of the UW Opera's productions of Orpheus in the Underworld and Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and Le Nozze di Figaro under the direction of William Farlow.

Melanie has also had success in concert repertoire. She sang Massent's aria "Pleurez mes yeux" from Le Cid with the UW Symphony Orchestra as a winner of their annual Concerto Competition. She has also sung Ruskai pogibnu (The Letter Scene) from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and soprano soloist in Mendelsshon's Elijah. She recently debuted with the Milwaukee Summer Philharmonia Orchestra singing Wagner's Prelude and Leibestod from Tristan und Isolde.

Melanie has received numerous honors including winner of the University of Wisconsin Concerto Competition, and was a recipient of the distinguished Bolz Fellowship of Music from UW. She was named alternate finalist in the 2009 Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year Competition, was a semi-finalist in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition and the Jensen Foundation National Voice Competition.
